Another Adult Stem Cell Success Story
A Canadian-led research team has shown it is not only possible, but relatively easy, to harvest stem cells from human eyes that could help fight blindness and degenerative eye disorders. [article - subscription required]. More of the article is quoted by Musings who also gets a Hat Tip.
Here is another adult stem cell success from from Prosthesis:
Lorraine Iacovitti of the Farber Institute of Neurosciences and her team of researchers at Jefferson Medical College have found a new way to convert adult bone marrow stem cells into brain cells, according to this article. Iacovitta says, "If we can now appropriately direct the differentiation of bone marrow stem cells, these cells could provide an abundant source of adult human neurons for use in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases."
